Link Net, the pay-TV and broadband internet subsidiary of First Media, has set a target to connect 2 million households to its home-pass service, a bundled broadband and cable-TV offering.

The company currently has 1.8 million home-pass subscribers in the Greater Jakarta area. The services are also available in Bandung (West Java), Surabaya (East Java) and Bali and it is now looking to Medan in North Sumatra and Batam in Riau Islands province to achieve its target to capture an even bigger market in Indonesia.

Link Net director Dicky Moechtar said the 2 million target for the home-pass service is expected to be met in 2017, with help from market expansion. “In the past 20 years of its presence, Link Net has been offering the latest technology and innovations that spoil customers,” Dicky said on the sidelines of First Media’s “NeXt Gen Experience” at Lippo Mall Kemang in November.

Among the breakthroughs are super-fast internet from FastNet, which offers speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second, 4k Ultra HD television and First Media X, the “TV Anywhere with Live Streaming and Catch-Up TV” mobile application service. The company is also offering 4G wireless internet services for on-the-go cable television facilities.

Smart living

On top of this, Link Net also offers a “Smart Living” concept, which makes use of fast internet services to offer customers an integrated security services solution at home. The service includes integrated video surveillance, intrusion-detection devices and automated security, all of which are integrated with a smartphone to allow customers to monitor their home anytime and anywhere.

“Nowadays, the internet has various functions, one of which is to support Smart Living – one of the examples of how we could utilize the so-called internet of things,” said Link Net chief technology officer Desmond Poon.

Subscribers to the new service get a package that includes equipment for indoor camera surveillance, a home gateway remote, door/window sensors, a 4-in-1 wireless motion sensor, and wireless siren and strobe alarm that are active 24 hours.

Previous First Media NeXt Gen Experience Tours were held at Lippomall Puri, Pluit Village, Tamini Square and Cibubur Junction. The events were part of First Media’s 20th anniversary celebration and were flooded with various gifts, starting from free drinks at Maxx Coffee to Rp5 million in prize money.

Lilies Surjono, head of marketing communication at Link Net, said the NeXt Gen Experience at Lippo Mall Kemang was the largest of the roadshow events, featuring the festival of communities, comprising the Indobolt/DSLR, Board Game, Jakarta HipHop, IndoMusikGram, JakSaber and 501st Legion Indonesia Star Wars events, DieCast Indonesia and RC Drift.

“The community festival was introduced since First Media supports all communities,” Lilies said. Among the highlights were the Cosplay Competition, RC Drift Competition and Online Game Competition. The Kids Fashion Show appealed to families and attractions such as jugglers, female DJs and hip-hop performances were also on show.

“The event was supported by MatahariMall.com, Ovo mobile application and content partners such as HBO, Fox and Channel News Asia. They were promoting the program and films that will be aired in 2017,” Lilies added.

To say thank you to its customers, she added, First Media has a special program in which existing customers who upgrade will get a discount of Rp1.8 million. Meanwhile new customers will only pay for nine months for their first year’s subscription.

Performance

Link Net booked net income of Rp605 billion ($46.2 million) in the first nine months of this year, up 31% from the same period last year, thanks to its expansion into the household and enterprise market segments, the company said in a statement. By the end of September, revenue was up 14% to Rp2.1 trillion with growing subscriber numbers.

Link Net’s “First Media Business” — launched at the beginning of this year — also gained traction, contributing 16% of the company’s revenue.

“We remain confident in our ability to achieve our growth targets this year and ultimately enhance shareholder returns,” Link Net president director and chief executive officer Irwan Djaja said in the statement.
